IWSG: The Next Genre I Wish to Write

Every month, we announce a question that members can answer in their IWSG post. These questions may prompt you to share advice, insight, a personal experience or story. Include your answer to the question in your IWSG post or let it inspire your post if you are struggling with something to say.

Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!

July 2 question - Is there a genre you haven't tried writing in yet that you really want to try? If so, do you plan on trying it?

A Story in the Works

With my writing I have stuck to the fantasy genres for most of it. I have written a young adult horror story that borderlines a dark fantasy in the modern world. The books range in adventure stories to some romance. I would have to say romance is my challenging genre. Any of it is hard for me to write, because what I read and how I write for a target audience.

I would have to say that I want to break off into other types of romance genres that feature different type of worlds with fantasy elements in it. One genre is MC romance. I have read I don’t know how many MC contemporary romances since my journey as a writer. They are really enjoyable. There were a few paranormal romance ones I liked, too. But I want to give it a go with one of my series I have in the works that I put on the back burner for a while.

Another big thing for me is writing in third person. All my fantasy books are in third person. I want to break out and try to write a romance in first person for once. Then I want to stay true to my target audience and try to not make it to rated R. I write mostly young adult and new adult books so that means I would like to keep it pretty clean.

The book I want to try this out on is my Predator of Darkness series. It is a new adult MC paranormal romance. Hoping to keep it with a cozy feel and paranormal MC feel to it. But the idea is to give readers something that isn’t completely smut. I love smut books don’t get me wrong, I just can’t write it. My writing comes out more for younger readers than anyone. Plus, I never wrote in first person so it will be a learning curve to find my voice.

Right now I am working on The Emerald Knight in my Tales of Tarza series. Once I finish it I plan to take a break from this series to write some of Predators of Darkness. I have a series set I have to write a book for but that is due in April 2026. So the plan is to spend a couple of months on Predators then switch to the new project. I don’t plan to release Predators until I have several books written or at least part of book 2 written. Don’t know how many books there will be in this series. But I am looking forward to finding out.

Summer has Begun...Swords are Flying!

Hi everyone.

The boys are officially out of school for the summer since last Thursday. The first several days we stayed home to relax after all the running around we have been doing. This means I got some writing done. So far, I have written a chapter a day since they have been out of school. Hard to believe I can write with them home when they make so much noise. But they go outside with their friends from time to time. I am getting better at blocking out the noise from their tablets so I can write.

Along with writing I have been cleaning more. Then got involved with coloring again. This doesn’t work for Ben though because I have claimed his ninja turtle coloring book to color in right now. He has been working on his school work and it’s only been one week and he is worried about his grades. I told him it would even out as he does more assignments but he wants to get a tutor set up before things get to out of hand.

As for writing I wanted to share a scene from my sparring scene between Rachel and Jardin. Rachel never had magic before but from the looks of things, the dragon stone might have awakened something deep inside her. Hope you enjoy this sneak peek and look forward to Thursday when I share some more world building facts.

Rachel slashed at him as he dodged the swipe. Then something happened she never did before. The stone filled her with this unknown energy and when Jardin charged she blocked with her sword and a powerful energy blasted out of her into Jardin’s chest sending him flying across the field. He went straight through the fence and landed on his back with a loud groan. Rachel stood there shocked and pulled the stone from her pocket. The dragon eyes on the insignia were glowing but the stone was dull.

What the heck was that? She thought.

Ramblings and Plans for the Future

Hi everyone.

Hard to believe it is June already. I'm trucking along in my current work in progress, "The Emerald Knight." Currently on chapter four and plan to write that today after I get done pimping all my books on social media.

This month I am pretty busy with trying to work around my husband, Ben's new schedule. He has Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays off. Then practically works all day Thursday and Friday. The weekend are his shorter days but that means I have to deal with the kids when I have to work and write. Hopefully things go as planned with my mom coming over to help. We have a ton of doctor appointments this week so I am limited on time to get things done. Luckily, the boys still are in school until Thursday. Only thing that sucks about it is getting up early in the morning to take them these last few days.

As for world building in my Tarzinëa world. I managed to get all my files organized and just need to start filling in sheets. Pretty much have notebooks everywhere you can imagine that have content and details on this world. And now I am trying to put all the information in my Scrivener file.

I did find my timeline I started working on several years back. Never finished it, though. Now I am going to go through and see what I can do to tweak it and make it better. The original plan was to have the world spread out over 3,000 years. But I changed it to 500 to 1,000 years instead.

I'll try to share some of the world timeline starting next week. Give you a little history on this world and what exactly happens throughout the eras of time. It is exciting to get back into this world and I look forward to sharing it with you. Hope you all have a great start to your week and look for another post from me on Thursday.
