Controlled by aliens, Nathaniel Wayne can’t resist his attraction to Marlene Broadie.

What inspired you to write this book?

When I was nineteen, my best friend’s mother grew sick and passed away. I wanted to give her a happy ending with a kind and powerful partner. So, I wrote this story. For more information about my inspiration, check out my blog at https://veesbookreviews.blogspot.com/

What can we expect from you in the future?

I have multiple pen names. Up next is a young adult fantasy under my Young Readers line. For 2027, I am reprioritizing my business tasks to pump up my marketing and promotions. I have more books than I have had time to devote to promoted stories. Next year is the year of elevating my current catalog except for drafting and releasing book three of my YA and releasing a translation of one of my children’s stories. I will be back in 2028 to publish the next story in my sci-fi romance world, Splendor of the Stars.

Do you have any “side stories” about the characters?

Yes. My character, Icarus, has an important perspective which simply didn’t fit the story. I’ll be releasing the short story as a side story.

Can you tell us a little bit about the characters in Requite of the Fates?

Marly Broadie is a half Black half Chinese American wartime photojournalist existing on grit and grief with her mother’s pending death. She needs money to support her mother’s life-saving medical procedures so she is forced to accept a job photographing movie star, Nathaniel Wayne, who has been chosen by the newly arrived aliens as Earth’s Emissary. That title is nothing like it appears. As Emissary, Nate’s body can be controlled by the aliens. Additionally, the aliens are torturing Nate’s body regularly and persistently, leaving his mind a bit cracked.

How did you come up with the concept and characters for the book?

My heroine is based loosely on my friend from high school. My hero is an archetype based on my own relationship with pain and recovery.

Where did you come up with the names in the story?

That’s a good question. My heroine’s name is based loosely on my high school friend’s name. As for Nate Wayne- that name sounds like the name of a movie star, don’t you think?

What did you enjoy most about writing this book?

I really enjoyed reconceptualizing this story as a mytho-sci romance. Think- the ancient gods are really aliens on Earth. Like Stargate or Prometheus. Such a cool concept.

Tell us about your main characters- what makes them tick?

They tick because they are individually motivated by very real human issues. Marly wants to save her mother’s life. Nate wants to escape the aliens’ imprisonment and torture. These are relatable motivations.

How did you come up with the title of your first novel?

The three Fates are at the top of the power structure for this story. Requiting the Fates means Fate can be pacified and, in a way manipulated for a positive outcome for our characters.

Who designed your book covers?

My book cover artist is Alexander Ness who constructed the cover phenomenally. Find his website here- https://www.nessgraphica.com/

Requite of the Fates
by: Venus Campbell
Genre: Interracial Time Travel Romance, SciFi Adventure

BLURB:

Perfect for fans of The Song of Achilles and A Touch of Darkness, this interracial time-travel romance is a Greek mythology retelling of the Theseus and the Minotaur that follows war photojournalist, Marly Broadie, surviving on grit and grief as she encounters Emissary Nate Wayne, under the control of aliens.

Set in near future New York city, and Los Angelos and 1500's BCE Crete, Nate's body, as Emissary for Earth, can be piloted by the Entity, aliens threatening humanity. Any resistance initiates humanity's annihilation. Marly's photography of the Emissary will ensure her mother's life-saving treatment. Instead, Marly provokes the Entity's interest and Nate's. Alien time-travel tech flings them back to ancient Minoan Crete. Stuck in the past, their desire for each other grows. Every reclaimed memory brings them closer to returning to the present and the Entity who can possess Nate's body. However, the future without them means human extinction. They will escape the past as their love is required to ensure humanity's future.

From award winning author, Venus Campbell, Requite of the Fates is a multicultural mytho-sci time-travel romance for readers ready to adventure into the mythical past.

Seth thought God was dead...but ideas tend to linger.

A day in your writing life.

My writing routine has evolved over the years. I used to change my writing location every day, throughout intervals of new cafes, picnic benches in various parks, and even hiking up a mountain to write a chapter at its summit. I found the change in scenery helped keep my creativity flowing, keep things from getting stale. Which it does, so I’d recommend this sporadic routine to any new writers struggling to get their stories drafted.

But now, after having been a writer for upward of a decade, my routine has been refined. No longer do I need to change my location. I still enjoy a café and always will, but I have no issue these days just sitting down and writing. So, here is what my current routine entails:

Upon awaking up next to my partner, who’s still asleep, much to my envy, I groggily leave bed and enter the kitchen. Brewing coffee, feeding and walking our dog, then spending an hour gradually awaking to my warm, caffeinated drink. Then, I make breakfast for the two of us and bring it into our home library where by then my partner is now awake and clocked into her remote job. Sitting at her desk in the corner, mere inches from mine. Some may think this would be distracting, but I find it peaceful, sitting there next to the love of my life, going about my business and she, hers—and as we do, I put on my headphones to listen to purely instrumental music (songs with lyrics tends to distract from my words) and begin typing. For the next 4-6 hours, with a lunch break between, I’m writing, word after word until reaching my daily goal. My standard is as such: 1000 words is fine but not a great day. 1500 words is a good day, but I can do better. 2000 words is a successful, great day. Anything more than that is just *chef’s kiss*. As stated above, I rarely change things up anymore, and am grounded in this routine, for which I am grateful. While the sporadic location changes in my early writing years and the still figuring it all out was fulfilling, with age I am happy to streamline my life in any way I can. I’m fortunate not to experience writer’s block, being able to simply sit down, and let it flow.

The Monsters Among Us
The Abyss Borne Gods Book 1

“Kent Priore writes like a natural about the supernatural, and The Monsters Among Us is a marvelously dark and true novel. American fiction has found a terrific new voice.”
—Joseph O’Neill, PEN/Faulkner Award-Winning Author of Netherland

BLURB:

Seth’s life until now has been a product of a diabolical, evil Truman Show, his entire upbringing a façade orchestrated for malevolent purposes. After his beloved dies, he undergoes a demonic metamorphosis, which causes the world’s fictitious walls to crumble.

As he tries to piece a semblance of his life back together and move on, he meets friends who inspire, but even more harsh truths are revealed, perhaps too difficult to cope with.

The very existence of life and reality is exposed as a machination of grotesque gods. And to defeat them, Seth will have to fill his emptiness, for which there’s only two options…
Bring the world to ruin, or learn to transmute his pain into strength.

Fans of "Jerusalem" by Alan Moore, “The Bell Jar” by Sylvia Plath, or “The Master and Margarita” by Mikhail Bulgakovor will enjoy “The Monsters Among Us.”

Graduated from Bard College with a BA in the Written Arts, Kent Priore is an author of dark literature, genre-blending epics and vignettes, where dark romanticism meets modern psychology for a macabre but hopeful depiction of inner struggle and the human ability to endure, and perhaps even prevail. He has a fascination with humanity and is one of the few to believe that despite our many weaknesses, we are far stronger than we often think. He wishes to show that strength to those darker individuals, burdened by lonesomeness, poor mental health, and other forces perceived to be out of their control, as well as show them that all is not lost.
