by: Jackie Pawl

****

"We are enemies by necessity, not by desire. You are my perfect torture, and I would have it no other way."

Love cutthroat court intrigue?

Craving a dark fantasy laced with slow-burn tension and heart-pounding twists?

Join Lady Riona and Prince Auberon in Court of Vipers, a dark fantasy novel featuring deadly court politics, morally gray heroes, and slow-burn enemies-to-lovers romance—perfect for fans of The Cruel Prince and Six of Crows.

Synopsis

From the moment she was born, Lady Riona's future was decided for her: when she came of age, she would marry the man her uncle chose and secure her kingdom a valuable political alliance.

Well, she obeyed once, and it nearly cost her life.

Now that she has escaped Beltharos's cutthroat court, she will not allow anything—or anyone—to tear her from her home again.

Prince Auberon is the infamous second son of the Erdurian Emperor. He is cunning, charming, wicked, and ruthless. When the Crown Prince is invited to bid for Riona’s hand in marriage, Auberon accompanies his brother into the heart of Rivosa with two missions:

Secure the betrothal, and uncover a secret that could end the decades-long war between their countries.

Auberon will stop at nothing to help his brother win Lady Riona's hand. Riona will do anything to avoid an arranged marriage. But when a high-ranking courtier is found murdered, they are forced into a shaky alliance that could change both their countries for the better... or destroy them completely.

Cover Reveal: "Death Takes a Holiday," by: Tammie Painter

Hello riders. It's still Friday which means I come to you with another fun bookish post. This one is a cover reveal for Tammie Painter's upcoming book "Death Takes a Holiday." Check out this unique cover and why you should preorder your copy of this humorous dark paranormal mystery today. Happy reading everyone :).

Death needed a vacation.
What he got was a murder, a demon, and a 73-year-old detective with no time to kill.

Death Takes a Holiday
The Mortimer & Mrs. Morris Trilogy Book 1
by: Tammie Painter
Genre: Humorous Dark Paranormal Mystery

BLURB:

Death is bored. Immortality will do that to you.

** A hilarious new series from the author of The Cassie Black Trilogy! **

After an eternity of escorting souls to the afterlife, Death — who really prefers you call him Mortimer — is bored. There's been departmental divisions, technical developments, and fitness crazes that mean people just aren't dying like they used to.

What's worse… He's running low on romance novels to keep himself occupied.

His solution: a working holiday to Top World, where he expects room service, infinity-high thread counts, and an easy solution to get business booming again.

What he doesn't expect is Mrs Morris, a seventy-three-year-old detective with a tightly packed schedule that leaves no room for an immortal assistant.

But Mortimer refuses to go away. After all, detectives find murderers, and having his very own killer would be the perfect way to nudge up those mortality rates.

Luckily, someone's just been murdered — and Mrs Morris has been hired to find the culprit. The only trouble? The victim reeks of demons, turning Mortimer's perfect opportunity into a great deal of trouble that could end his career. Oh, and the human race.

Death Takes a Holiday is a humorous fantasy novel about the most inconvenient partnership in the history of the afterlife, where a pair of unlikely allies are thrown together by broken bones, murder mysteries, pesky demons, and the deadliest cup of coffee in Portland.

Like Terry Pratchett joining the Thursday Murder Club, Death Takes a Holiday is perfect for fans of wry humor, paranormal mystery, and unforgettable characters forming reluctant bonds.

Author of humorous fantasy whodunits full of mythical misfits and magical mishaps

Many moons ago I was a scientist in a neuroscience lab where I got to play with brains and illegal drugs. Now, I take wickedly strong tea and turn it into comic fantasy whodunits full of mythical misfits and magical mishaps that I hope give you a giggle.

My tales run the gamut from the ever-expanding Cassie Black Trilogy with its wryly humorous paranormal mysteries to the comical fantasy whodunits in The Circus of Unusual Creatures, and from light-hearted novellas celebrating my love of books to short fiction in which I really flex my myth-loving and humor-craving muscles!

When I’m not creating worlds or killing off characters, I can be found gardening, planning my next travel adventure, concocting some sort of mess in the kitchen, or working as an unpaid servant to one very spoiled cat and some very demanding squirrels.

BLURB:

Fleeing to Dorset traps a mother and son between a cult and a killer waiting in the shadows…

If this whole saga was a fight between good and evil, then who had won? As far as Miriam could work out, neither good nor evil had triumphed yet. Now she was having to confront the grim consequences of Will’s behaviour, and she was mortally afraid. Maybe he and his darkness would win after all.

The tragic suicide of a young student starts a shocking chain of events for William Marshall, his wife Miriam and their son, Ollie. As Will descends into madness, a ghostly presence appears in their old house to protect Ollie. However, when two strangers threaten Miriam and an attempt is made to snatch Ollie, mother and son are forced to flee.

Amidst ever-present danger, they shake off pursuers to seek sanctuary in Rock House in Dorset, where they meet Caitlin and her friends. Twenty years have passed since Charlie Bond helped Caitlin solve the mystery of her mother’s death. Now, it is the turn of Charlie’s sidekick, Sam Haskell, to investigate a mysterious cult and unmask a killer.

Gill Calvin Thomas is a retired academic who lives with her husband in Swanage , UK.  She finds inspiration in the landscape around her – the Isle of Purbeck has a spectacular coastline and beautiful beaches, and it is whilst walking here, that Gill develops characters and plots the twists and turns you will find in her books.

Gill’s life experiences have informed her writing.  For example, her mother’s death when she was a small child, influenced her first book, Vex Not Her Ghost, where the heroine has to delve into the past to uncover the real circumstances of her mother’s death, the cover up and the ongoing corruption.  Her experiences as a social work academic governs the plot of her second book, Sister Olive Wouldn’t Hurt a Fly.  In this book the fatal combination of a researcher's mental collapse and a sociopathic opportunist give rise to a cliffhanging finale.

Reviewers have said that Gill writes the sort of books in which you find yourself racing to the end, whilst not wanting to finish.  Her characters are compelling, well-drawn and sensitively portrayed.  In her books bad people get what they deserve, but it is never quite what it seems.

She is currently writing her third book.

Goddess of the Elves — Salza

Hello riders. Today I am going to introduce you to one of my favorite Goddesses from the world of Tarzinëa. Her name is Salza. She is the Goddess of Elves and Forest. Her parents are Nütari, the Goddess of Beasts, and her father, Mortez, the God of Dragons.

Salza has been running amok in the Forest of Ferrês since she was only a baby. This was her mother’s special land for the creatures she created and Salza enjoyed it so much she created the elves that would have a forest of their own over in Vladïmir. Her abilities range from healing, light magic, and some magic of beasts in nature.

Her constellation in the sky above Vladïmir is a little blossom, but when times of war happen she becomes a mountain lion. She is also the goddess that created the Purity Bow one of four magical artifacts that were blessed by the gods to help mortals with wars and protect the innocent.

At the time of Tales of Ferrês, Salza appears several times in different stories. She helps fate by bringing the forest to the heroes and pushing them within the barriers to face the fate of the world. Her power is limited and sometimes she takes the form of a full grown elven maiden. But she remains in her child form because of respect for her father Mortez that was exiled when she was little. She doesn’t want him coming back to the world only to find her and everyone else changed without him.

Her favorite elf is Ïstan, the Prince of Exiles. He turned his back on his people and Salza left her people behind to follow him and bless him. The Dark Ages have fallen on Vladïmir and many within the elven kingdom don’t know why the goddess has forsaken them.

But that is a story for my novels to reveal. Right now, though, you get to see how involved she is with her heroes since her father can’t be. Many dragon riders were born from the union of magic with Mortez and Serena the Goddess of the Blue Moon. They are also siblings. Probably why Salza is so close to Serena and helps her take over the Forest of Ferrês.

What's Happening with the Tales of Ferrês Kickstarter!

Hello riders.

It's been a bit since I did an exclusive update over here on my blog for my Tales of Ferrês Special Anniversary Editions Kickstarter. Right now I am happy to say that setting things up is going smoothly. The only obstacle is finding time to make all the graphics. This last weekend I revamped the prelaunch page again and used a different art graphic from the hardcover book to bring the page to life. You can check it out HERE.

Two weeks ago I put in an order for my final proofs of the paperback and hardcover editions for this campaign through BookVault. I didn't realize the first time around that it was best to keep the official title off the cover when doing the foiling letters in a different file. They didn't line up and that meant I had to fix the files myself. Turns out I just needed the image for the cover and a file with the text. I got that situated though and I hope those that read this learn from my mistake.

Today I sent out another update to my followers over on Kickstarter. It included details about the print order and the cards I plan to feature throughout the campaign. There are going to be 5 of them that will only be offered through specific steps of the campaign itself. Once the campaign ends I will have them on my website for a limited time for collector purposes. This is something I plan to offer with each of my campaigns since all my books are within one world by themselves.

I also showcases another art print from inside the hardcover edition for all followers to check out before I get the ability to share a video of the interior of the books themselves. I'm getting super excited about this campaign getting closer and closer to the launch date. Right now I am sitting with 85 followers. I need to get to 100 followers so I can launch. The launch date was supposed to be August 11th but if I don't hit 100 followers by then I will have to push it back until I hit that goal.

If you could do me a favor and help by sharing the campaign with your family and friends that would be great. I need about 15 more followers and I know we can get there if we work together.

This is it for my update this time around. No pretty pictures but if you want to see the cards and art print make sure to follow me on Kickstarter and click NOTIFY ME ON LAUNCH to get updates and the launch announcement.

Until next time...
